GLI-19
GLI-19 is the technical standard for interactive (online) gaming systems published by Gaming Laboratories International, defining the requirements an iGaming platform and its games must meet to be certified for regulated operation.
GLI standards are the closest thing online gambling has to a common technical rulebook: many regulators either adopt GLI-19 directly or base their own technical requirements on it, so a GLI-19 certification travels well across jurisdictions. The standard covers, among other areas:
- Randomness — RNG implementation and outcome integrity (with RNG specifics building on GLI-11 concepts);
- Game and platform logic — wager handling, result determination, incomplete-game recovery, payout accuracy;
- Player account integrity — wallet transactions, balance handling, session management;
- Data logging and reporting — audit trails regulators and disputes depend on;
- System security and change control — how modifications to a certified system must be managed and re-verified.
Certification is performed on specific software versions: material changes to certified components trigger re-testing, which is why disciplined release management is part of platform vendor selection.
Why it matters: for operators, a platform's GLI-19 certificate is a market-entry document — regulators ask for it by name. Buying uncertified core technology means paying for certification later, on someone else's codebase and timeline — so a vendor's certification status and roadmap belong in every due-diligence checklist.
