iGaming

Published: 2026-08-12Last updated: 2026-08-12

iGaming is the industry of gambling delivered over the internet — online casino, sports betting, poker, bingo and lotteries — spanning the operators who serve players and the B2B ecosystem of platforms, game studios, aggregators, payment providers and compliance vendors behind them.

The industry has a layered structure worth understanding before any buy-or-build decision:

  • Operators (B2C) hold gambling licences and own the player relationship;
  • Platform providers supply the core technology — PAM, wallet, back office;
  • Content suppliers — game studios and aggregators — provide the games;
  • Specialist layers — sportsbook feeds, PSPs, KYC vendors, affiliate networks — complete the stack.

Regulation defines the map: iGaming operates market by market, each jurisdiction setting its own licensing, taxes and technical rules. The long-term trend is from grey .com operations toward locally regulated markets — Europe first, then the Americas, with regulated online betting live, as of 2026, across much of the US and Brazil.

Why it matters: "iGaming" is the umbrella under which every term in this glossary sits. For anyone entering the industry — operator, investor or supplier — the essential insight is that it is a regulated, infrastructure-heavy business where technology choices and licences, not just marketing, decide who scales. Start with our guide on what an iGaming platform is.
